RCS - the future for in-message payments?

In an increasingly busy modern marketing landscape, businesses are having to work harder than ever to grab the attention of their customers. From a brand/customer engagement perspective, this can be exhausting! The race to  deploy new strategies and respond to customers' desire for engagement is well and truly on; and as a result brands who strive to be innovative, must continue to adopt new channels to respond to their customers' appetite for rich content and interactions.

Thankfully, 2019 looks set to be a promising year in terms of further innovation, with the introduction of RCS (Rich communication services), otherwise known as RBM (Rich Business messaging).

The RCS business messaging platform is a game-changer for brands looking to further engage consumers, with rich app-like experiences.

A recent report by Mobilesquared, reveals the growth opportunities for brands and businesses launching into RCS will change the way they interact with their mobile customers forever and reports indicate that the message platform will see significant growth, over the next years, as more brands follow suit.

In 2020, payments and messaging could merge once again, if the technical specifications for in-message payments can be agreed. This would be a very attractive offering for both consumers and merchants. The current challenge is to make payments part of a wider experience making it safer, faster and more convenient for consumers, whilst offering richer engagement and increased customer acquisition.

DMB has been granted access to Google's Rich Communication Services (RCS) business messaging. Enabling payments is the next natural step to maximise the potential of RCS and we will continue to test the market place and bring regular updates as we have them. DMB are excited to be part of this and look forward to bringing our customers a revolutionary mobile experience in 2020.
